On Veterans day, Wednesday November 11th, the trumpet players from Ava travelled to the MSU campus to perform taps with their band. Around sixty trumpets participated in this, spreading around the entire MSU campus. It is played in an echo, or cascading effect. One bugle starts playing it, and then the next will echo him. Every trumpet player will echo the one before him, giving cue to the next using a gentle sweeping motion to the side, with their trumpet. Taps is the song that was used to let the soldiers know when it was time for lights out. Brigadier General Daniel Butterfield arranged the song that was being used currently, into what we know as taps today. Taps is played at military funerals when someone is being laid to rest. To close out the day, the trumpet players walked around, toured the campus, and had a delicious dinner at Lambert’s Cafe!
