Ava Lady Bears Hope to Keep Win Streak Alive

      The Lady Bears are on a roll. They have won five games in a row including two Conference wins and a third place overtime win in the Lebanon Tournament. Ava played in the Lebanon Tournament over theHolidaybreak and came out of it with a 2-1 record and a third place trophy. Ava played Crocker in the third place game and it was an exciting one. Ava jumped out to an early lead, but Crocker tied the game up at 52 at the end of regulation time. In OT the Lady Bears outscored Crocker 9 to 2 to win 61-54.

            Ava’s next game was played at theMSUWestPlainsCivicCenter. Going into the game Ava knew they were going to have their hands full facing the undefeated West Plains Lady Zizzers. It was back and forth the whole game, but with time running out and down by one Jorie Garrett laid in a basket to win the game 33-32.

Ava’s next contest was at home against Forsyth. Forsyth got off to a hot start hitting four three-point shots in the first quarter, but Ava came out strong in the second quarter holding Forsyth to only five points. Ava’s Payton Lakey and Jorie Garrett alone outscored Forsyth’s whole team. Lakey scored 25 and Garrett scored 21, and with the rest of the team adding 23 points, the Bears went on to win 69-43.

            Ava had their second game of conference play against the Cabool Bulldogs at Cabool. Ava rolled with an easy victory winning by a margin of 39 points. Every player that dressed varsity on the Ava squad scored except for two. Ava then turned around and played a good Mountain View-Liberty-Birtchtree on that Thursday. After the first quarter, both teams were hot from the field. Ava scored 16 points in the first quarter, butLibertywas not far behind scoring 11. It was a back and forth game the whole night until Ava went on a 17 to 9 run in the fourth quarter to win by the score of 53 to 36.

            Ava’s next game is againstConwaythis Thursday atConway. Ava hopes to keep their five game win streak alive.
