          After winning five straight games Ava headed to face the Conway Lady Bears. Ava handled the Bears easily, winning by the score of 53-39. After the win over Conway, our Lady Bears had their eyes set on the Reed Springs Tournament.

            The Lady Bears started the tournament off against an always tough Forsyth team. Ava scored 19 points in the first two quarters and had a seven-point lead going into half time. Ava pulled away in the end winning 69-43. Ava had a good night scoring, with all five starters scoring in double-digits. Ava’s next game was against the Blue Eye Lady Bulldogs. Payton Lakey led the way for the Ava Bears scoring 16-points. Ava had a one-point lead at half and with solid free throw shooting at the end Ava pulled away and won by 7. In the Championship game, Ava had a rematch with the very good West Plains Lady Zizzers, and the Zizzers were looking to avenge their one-point loss that Ava gave them earlier in the season. The Lady Bears got off to a slow start and West Plains made them pay taking a 21-7 halftime lead. Ava cut it to 10 in the third, but lost in the end by the score of 46-24.

            Ava bounced back quickly after their Championship loss to West Plains beating Mountain Grove in the Highway 60 showdown in a dominant fashion. Ava came out and took a ten-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Ava took a 15-point lead at half and ended up winning by 32, with a score of 66-34. This put Ava at four and zero in conference, but they have the Willow Springs Lady Bears coming to town on Thursday. 

            Ava with a perfect record in conference on the line playedWillowhere. Ava came out and put up 17-points in the first quarter taking a five-point lead. Ava heldWillowto five-points in the second quarter, but after only scoring six-points Ava went into the half with a six-point lead. Ava came out flat in the second half getting outscored 22-14, and ended up losing the game on a last second shot. Ava battled the whole game, but with shots not falling for them Willow Springs took the win and handed Ava their first conference loss in three years.

            After their loss toWillow, Ava traveled toNorwoodthe next Monday. Ava had a seven-point lead at half, and with the help of Lakey’s 25 points, Ava won 52-36. Ava now has a record of 15-6 and hopes to win the rest of their conference games and get the second seed in Districts.
