Ava Bears golf is getting underway, and this season should be a competitive one. Ava lost their one state qualifier last season in Cody Heriford, and they also lost Matthew Irby and Seth Miller. Ava has three returning letterman: Dexter Fish, Jesse Dean, and Trey Everett. Dexter Fish received All Conference and All District last year, and Jesse Dean also made it past districts and got to play in the sectional golf meet. Another player returning after taking a year off is Seth Maples. Seth decided not to play golf last season, but he lettered in golf his sophomore year. Seth said, “I am ready to get out there and start playing again.” Two new faces that are looking to make an impact on the golf team this year are Tristan Haltom and Kevin Philpott. Tristan is a freshman who is looking to step in and find a spot in the top five, but another student who is looking to do the same is senior Kevin Philpott who decided to come out for the golf team this year.

The team will be young this year, and leading the way for them will be new head coach Nathan Houk. Coach Houk is excited for golf and said, “We should have a good team this year, and all the boys get along so it should also be a fun year.” The first meet is at West Plains and Ava is looking to start the season off with a win.
