Ava track season gets underway with high hopes for another successful season. Ava is returning a lot of experienced runners from last year, and has a good leadership core of seniors out for the team this year. Ava has seven seniors on both the boys’ and girls’ teams that have very high expectations for this year. Senior Chase Dixon says, “Our 4×8 relay team lost a key member when Dakota Renner got hurt, but I think when he returns we will have a strong chance of making it to sectionals again.” Luke Shortt and Payton Lakey are newcomers to the track team this year, and Coach Kyger said, “Payton has a very good chance of winning the open 400 for our team.”
Ava also has some runners that are looking to make it to state this year in their event. Junior, Kyle Clinkingbeard runs in the open 800 and the open 400, and he has his eye set on the school record in the 400– right now he is putting up times that are about a second off of the record. Other kids looking to make a mark in their events are Chase Dixon, Kane Thompson, and Dakota Renner. Chase Dixon is running in the 4×4, 4×8, and the open 200. Chase was a strong Cross Country runner and this year he is trying to make just as much of an impact on the track. Freshman, Kane Thompson is trying to earn his spot in the lime light, but he is running in one of the toughest events: the 100 meter dash. Another strong runner returning for Ava is All-State Cross Country runner, Dakota Renner. Dakota broke his foot a week after practice started, but says, “I should be able to run again by the end of the year.”
Ava has been practicing hard for the past three weeks, and all the runners are anxious to get out and show what they are capable of. Ava’s first track meet is March 30th at Lebanon. Ava is hoping to start the season strong, and never look back.
