Seth Maples was very disappointed about his and the team’s overall performance the last three meets. They lost to Liberty in Districts—a team that they had already beaten twice. The Bears then lost to Liberty again along with two other schools to earn fourth in the conference meet. Maples stated, “The Ava Golf team did not perform as well as we planned.” Even though the Golf team did not win, all five members of the golf team were awarded with All-District honors. Jesse Dean was first team All- District, Tristin Haltom and Seth Maples were second team, and Dexter Fish and Trey Everett were honorable mention. All of the golfers qualified for sectionals.
The conference golf meet took place at Liberty’s golf course. Ava went in looking to rebound off their sour performance at Districts, but it did not happen at conference. Ava’s Jesse Dean had another solid performance receiving first team All- Conference, Tristin Haltom received second team, and Dexter Fish and Seth Maples received honorable mention.
The Ava golf team turned around the next week and traveled to Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield for state sectionals. Ava struggled and had only one member of the team qualify for state play. Tristin Haltom shot an 83 which qualified him for the state meet. Dexter Fish missed the cut by one stoke shooting an 88. The state golf meet will be held at Rivercutt Golf Course in Springfield.
