Softball Lady Bears Start Their Season

     After a long summer of tournaments for the traveling team, the girls are ready for a good season. Last year, the team had good senior leaders. The seniors who graduated last year are Payton Lakey, Ashlyn Mitchell, Jessi Eubanks, Mikali Elliott, Abbie Lansdown, Kelsy Regennitter, and Morgan Emerich. This year, there our 3 seniors on the team, the seniors are Kayla Dougterty, Hannah Johnson, and Abby Sparnicht.

     The first game was last Wednesday on the 22nd, at Liberty. Abby Sparnicht had a home run. The Lady Bears won 14-3. On Thursday the 23rd, the Lady Bear had a game against Forsyth. The Lady Bears lost their game 11-1, but it was a good game. The score does not reflect how the Bears played. They play great. On Monday the 27th, the Bears had their first home game against Norwood. The Lady Bears lost 7-4. On Tuesday the 28th, the Bears had another home game againstSalem. The Lady Bears lost 12-1.

     The Bears have had a rough season, with a homerun and a 2-2 season. On the 30th, they faced off withSparta with the hopes of changing the season around. The Lady Bears huge win, 19-1, made their spirits brighter. They also earned a win againstGlendale, 14-0.

     “Our conference games areSalem, Willow Springs, and Thayer. They will be our tough ones this year. All my girls are good hitters, but it varies each game. The team gets better after each game,” Coach Sawyer says about the team and the season.

     The next game is at Rogersville on September 6th. Go out and support the Bears in their game!
