A buzz sounds and the lights go out in the Ava High School Gym. A spotlight points towards the doors were six students and their escorts are lined up. Coach Kyger’s voice rings out, announcing the start of the 2017 Hoopcoming Coronation! After a full week of spirit, the town of Ava will finally know who the next Hoopcoming King and Queen are.

The coronation began after the junior varsity basketball game, which ended around 7 pm. King candidates Devin Elliot, Anthony Rosas, and Colton Skyles, along with queen candidates Kexin Li, Emily Guengerich, and Alayna Brown, walked with their escorts across the gym and onto the stage where the past Hoopcoming Queen stood with her escort. As the candidates walked to their spots, information about them was relayed to the crowd. Once the six contestants stood upon the stage, the 2017 Hoopcoming King and Queen were announced. They are…Anthony Rosas and Emily Guengerich! Congratulations to them and all the amazing candidates who were a part of the ceremony.
