On March 16th and 17th, the Ava Pride Band, Ava Concert Choir, and Ava Mixed Choir went to West Plains to perform songs they have been preparing for months. Each group performed in front of a panel of three judges, who then rated them on a scale of five to one, one being the best and five being the worst. Then, the groups went to a different room and participated in sight reading of sheet music, which everyone scored very well in. Overall, on Thursday, the band got all ones, the Mixed choir got a two and one in sight reading, and Concert choir got a two and a one in sight reading.

On Friday, those of all three groups who were in an ensemble or had a solo returned to West Plains to compete against themselves for the opportunity to get into State, which requires a student to score a one. Students arrived as early as 8:30 and didn’t leave until roughly 5:00 or 6:00. Choir left with six students scoring ones and eleven students scoring twos, and band has 21 events going to State.
