Respect Your Elders

Respect Your Elders

Ryan McFarlin

At Ava High School, it is a tradition for seniors to give little tidbits of advice to the freshman. These helpful hints are usually something that the seniors wish they knew as a freshman and want to pass on to a new group of “fresh” faces. This advice is not heeded by just freshman, but older students and even the teachers and staff.

A few seniors agreed to share their advice early to improve the experience of high school. Abby Groenenboom says, “If you join band or a club you like, stay motivated and work hard. Don’t stress over homework, just get it out of the way.” Another senior, A.J. VanValkenburg, gave this advice,”Abstinence is the answer. Also, respect the teachers.”

This advice is usually helpful, and sometimes even a little bit funny, and every senior has something to say. The seniors were newbies once and they understand the confusion of the hallways. If you need help, any senior will be glad to advise you on what to do. Depending on who you ask, they may make fun of you, but they will still help you. Hopefully, the freshmen can become the advice giving seniors in a few years.
